Height scale
A graduated height scale is used when a certain accuracy of reading is possible and required. In principle, a height scale is placed on the starboard side of the passage opening as seen from an approaching ship. The available vertical clearance is the number of meter blocks plus the number of decimeter blocks above the waterline.
Placement of a height scale on both the starboard side and on
the port side of the passage opening occurs in bridges where the passage consists of one wide opening. A height scale is applied in combination with reference marks in those cases where the indicated vertical clearance does not correspond to the clearance near the piers. Two height scales are also used for bridges where the clearance height on the starboard side differs from that on the port side. In bridges with more than one passage opening, the height scales are placed in such a way that the pillars of the recommended passage opening are also marked with them.
For bridges with a vertical clearance of 3 meters or more, it is recommended to design a height scale in such a way that at least two meter blocks remain visible above the water, in order to facilitate reading.
For low bridges over small waterways, i.e. lower than 3 m, with an almost constant water level, which are mainly important for water sports or recreational craft, use can be made of a height scale with a block division only in decimetres. and whose width is less than that of the other types of height scales. When using this scale, a part with a minimum height of 1.0 meter above the water must remain visible. No height indications are used for bridges with a vertical clearance of less than 2.0 metres.
Our official shipping signs are produced from durable aluminum and provided with a double turned edge, which reinforces the shipping sign. The double bent edge is also used for mounting the shipping sign on a bottle pole, tube pole or light pole. For good night visibility, we provide the shipping signs with class II or III retro-reflective foil. Our shipping signs have CE marking
