Shipping Sign BPR D.1a
Recommended passage opening, passage from opposite direction allowed
The signs D.1a and D.1b, designed as sign (s), usually appear on fixed bridges and sometimes on fixed spans of movable bridges. Instead of signs, more and more use is made of lights. For bridges consisting of a movable section and one or more fixed span (s), the use of night-lit signs on the fixed spans is recommended. The reason for this is that when lights are used, the overall signal aspect will not always appear clear. The traffic sign D.1a as a sign or as a solid yellow light indicates the recommended passage opening, plus the fact that passage is allowed from both directions. Only passage openings that are wide enough for two-way traffic according to the Waterway Guidelines are eligible. If a fixed bridge has only one opening, the sign, usually designed as a light, can be placed in the middle above the passage opening. The light then functions as a point of reference. The latter may be the case, for example, with fixed bridges over canals, where other fairway lighting is missing.
Our official shipping signs are produced from durable aluminum and provided with a double folded edge to reinforce the shipping sign. The double folded edge is also used for mounting the shipping sign to poles or light poles. For good night visibility, we provide the shipping signs with retro-reflective film class II or III. Our shipping signs are provided with CE marking
